DISH Network Propaganda
Right now, DISH Network is devoting an entire channel (211 - "Stop Unfair Satellite Tax" - which isn't listed in their programming package) to fighting taxes of Satellite TV service. In the "info" blurb, it says "A call to action for DISH subscribers who don't want higher satellite TV taxes. Get involved, pick up the phone and save money." Accompanied by some kampy adult-contemporary muzak, the message reads:
---------------------------------------- ------
URGENT ACTION NEEDED TODAY
Tell Congress:
"JUST SAY NO! TO MORE TAXES ON MY DISH NETWORK BILL"
We think taxes on your DISH Network bill are too high and we are trying to do something about it. You can help. Please call your home state representative at the number listed below. Tell them enough is enough. Ask them to support the satellite tax fairness amendment.
Please pick up the phone and call NOW.
Arizona - Rep. Franks
Florida - Rep. Feeney | Rep. Keller
Massachusetts - Rep. Delahunt
Ohio - Rep. Jordan
Utah - Rep. Cannon
California - Rep. Sanchez | Rep. Lofgren
Georgia - Rep. Johnson
North Carolina - Rep. Watt
Tennessee - Rep. Cohen
---------------------------------------- ------
I can't find anything online that describes what exactly the "Satellite Fairness Tax Amendment" is - but if DISH Network is for it, then I'm almost certainly opposed to it (and not just because it positively oozes Orwellian rhetoric).
I called the first five numbers, but was unable to leave a message because the mailboxes of all of those representatives were full. I assume the case is the same for all of the rest of the representatives. Guess what types of calls those representatives' mailboxes will be full of tomorrow morning.
